"Anything I can do in the future to really put the spotlight on women, to give women a greater voice, is a clear priority for me right now," said Cannes Film Festival president Iris Knobloch. Knobloch acknowledges that despite the success of Greta Gerwig's "Barbie," women still face significant barriers in the film industry, especially behind the camera. Speaking with Variety, she emphasized the importance of addressing these issues in today’s world. Knobloch highlighted the progress made, noting an increase in female-directed short films and submissions from film schools. However, she pointed out that women rarely have access to substantial budgets, underscoring the need for continued advocacy.
